Be LaRoe

Be LaRoe met DADAnewyork while producing, directing, acting and writing for Lamia Ink!’s Tap This!, a performance featuring danced poetry. She has worked and played with them ever since. Her first book, Cypress Knees & Palms (Ten Pell Books 2001) was released last spring. She has performed her poetry at the Kitchen, The Knitting Factory, ABC No Rio and the Poetry Project. Be’s film appearances include films by Mabou Mines, Yoshiko Chuma and a “short” that ran on Showtime for three years. She performed with Linda Mussmann’s Time & Space, Ltd. for five years, including the role of Robespierre in Danton’s Death at LaMama. She is very excited to have been working with The Living Theatre for the past few years. Be attended Florida State University, and has remained very active with the FSU theatre networking organization in NYC, The Florida Project receiving their 2001 Annual Achievement Award. In 1988 she founded Chez LaRoe, a theatrical salon, presenting evenings of poetry, music, dance and theatre out of her loft. Be is a Board member of Lamia Ink! and a judge for their Annual International One Page Play Competition and Producing Director of the annual One Page Play Festival, hosted at Chez LaRoe for the past several years.
